The Bosniak Institute was established in 2001 in order to promote cultural and historical heritage. It was established by Adil-Bey Zulfikarpasic, a well-known Bosnian dissident at the time of the Socialist Yugoslav Republic. He was an eminent member of the political and cultural scene. The institute encompasses the library, an archive (documents from different periods), war documents archive 1991-1995, collection of art pieces, graphic centre (photography, old postcards, graphic papers, reproduction, posters), cartographic collection (historical and geographic maps).

The institute also runs its own book and antique shop, and a publishing house. It is located next to the Ghazi Husrev-Bey’s Hamam, a Turkish bath built between 1537 and 1539. The Hamam had a separate sections for women and men, and in the 19th century it had bath for Jewish ritual washing added. Today it is a part of the Bosniak Institute complex.

Entry fee is 2 KM for students and retired persons. Regular entry fee is 3 KM. One-hour tour with a guide costs 30 KM for students and retired persons. Regular guiding services cost 50 KM. The Bosniak Institute is open for visits Monday to Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Group visits are available on Sunday by appointment only.
