Slatko cose – Sweet Corner Where East Meets West
Slatko cose was named after the tiny pastry shops that have been there for over centuries. On this exact spot is where the old Ottoman Sarajevo suddenly starts to flow into the Austro-Hungarian period.
Location: Old Town
With the Austro-Hungarians a new life style, new architecture, and a new stream of thought was born. Yet, even though it is visible to the naked eye, this crossroad of the old and the new is merely a subtle encounter. The Ottoman heritage is visible in other spots as well, located a few kilometers from this site (Ghazi Husrev-Bey’s Hamam or Magribija Mosque). However, this border announces the end of the 16th century and the golden era during which over a hundred mosques, three hundred shops, six tekkes, seven hamam baths, several madrasah schools, libraries, bridges, inns and caravanserai were built.
