Olympic Sarajevo
The 14th Winter Olympic Games put Sarajevo under the world’s spot light, and have made Sarajevo the city of sports and events. At the ceremonial closure of the Games in 1984, Juan Antonio Samaranch, President of the International Olympic Committee, pronounced Sarajevo as the best host of the Winter Olympic Games of the time.
The Olympic spirit has lived in Sarajevo ever since and will spark up again in 2017 for the European Youth Winter Olympic Festival. Sarajevo, indeed, has always been a sports centre – home to numerous events and a birth place to many top brass athletes such as Mirza Delibasic, Ivica Osim, Edin Dzeko… However, the best Winter Olympic symbols are Bjelasnica, Igman, Jahorina and Trebevic Mountains.
